This detailed psychological portrait of an obstinate Communist functionary Arnošt Pánek is one of the recently deceased director Ladislav Helge’s masterpieces. Formerly associated with the Prague Spring era and later banished to the normalization vault, the film remains a poignant critique of bureaucratic blindness.
