Eva (Hedy Kiesler), a landowner’s daughter, marries Emil (Zvonimir Rogoz), a rich but emotionally distant man. During a frustrating wedding night she already realises what a mistake she has made. One summer morning she meets under delicate circumstances with Adam (Aribert Mog), a young engineer with whom she experiences moments of ecstatic passion. The love-triangle story serves as a background which the director Machatý uses to develop unique sensual imagery.
